Vandu’s Story

Vandu started out in 1999 offering translation, interpreting and bilingual advocacy services in South East England. The company was founded by Mebrak Ghebreweldi, originally from Eritrea, where she was a freedom figher during the Eritrean War for Independence. It was this experience that taught Mebrak the value of communication, inclusivity, resilience and the benefits that come with diversity of thought.

Fast-forward to today, and Vandu Languages has over 25 years of experience working with marginalised communities and our trainers and directors have the lived experience of being from minority backgrounds. We are here today to provide positively disruptive EDI training and consultancy with the aim of creating real change to businesses and communities in the UK

Our approach to training

Vandu's facilitative and dynamic approach to learning means that no two courses are taught in exactly the same way. Largely, each training programme will introduce a concept, supported by theory, experience or a mix of the two. Atendees then apply concepts practically, often by considering how implementation would work in their very own job. Learning is then consolidated by further interactive or reflective sessions, often sharing their new-found knowledge with others - creating further opportunity for ideation.

Our training programmes are provided by expert practitioners, highly regarded academics or individuals with incredible lived-experiences. These are individuals that not only have years of knowledge and experience, but who have been able to distil that wisdom into the lessons they teach.
